Job Description

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

• Assist in the provision of practical and theoretical expertise in Immunohistochemistry based techniques, image analysis and molecular biological techniques to support project teams in developing tissue based assays to support both target selection/validation studies, lead optimisation studies and pharmaco-dynamic endpoints in animal models.
• To conduct a broad range of specialist routine and non-routine histological techniques on tissues taken from clinical trials to support discovery medicine
• Analyse morphological images to convert visual to numerical data in support of the diagnosis and decision making processes of the Pathologists
• Investigate, develop and implement new demonstration techniques to ensure the most effective, efficient and up-to-date methods are being utilised
• Ensure that all allocated work is completed on time, according to pre-defined customer requirements, and in total compliance with the principles of good laboratory practice.
• As appointed project scientist for allocated projects, ensure that all data are generated to a highest standard and are expertly interpreted presented and reported to scientists and Discovery Project Teams, Translational Scientists and Development Project Teams and to external scientific bodies
• Responsible for making sure that the work within their function is performed in accordance with SHE Requirements
• To participate in technical problem solving discussions with a wide variety of staff.
• To support Team Leader and Senior Scientists in generating study plans, establishing novel ideas, implementing new methods and providing guidance for Discovery Medicine
• Maintain awareness of relevant areas of research and competitive activity through study of the literature and attendance of scientific meetings.
• Prepare and present results in reports and at meetings to update Management and Project Team members on progress in the project.
• Ensure that all allocated laboratory work is completed on time, according to pre-defined customer requirements, in total compliance with the principles of Good Laboratory Practice

Minimum Requirements •Education and Experience

• Will normally possess or be working towards Fellowship/HTEC/HND/BSc or equivalent qualification together with at least three years experience of conducting Immunohistochemistry laboratory based studies.
• Developing specialist knowledge in histological/immunohisto/cytochemical techniques is required.
