Senior Estimator

Senior Estimator required for our Rail and Construction Client based in Redhill.

In the next few years our will be bidding larger, more multi-disciplined projects, and are targeting a growth in turnover from current £75m to in excess of £100m in the next few years. They therefore need to reinforce their estimating capability and capacity to ensure they are as competitive as possible to reinforce their good reputation as a top quality provider of rail infrastructure services.
The primary role of the position will therefore be to calculate cost estimates and prepare bids to London Underground and other clients for tender submissions including individual projects and work packages. Works will include building and civil engineering in and around the railway environment.

ACCOUNTABILITIES (Main tasks / responsibilities. Will include planning, controlling, monitoring, communicating aspects and end results.)
Actions required to calculate tender prices as follows:
· Prepare design briefs and send out invitations for quotations from Designers
· Liaise with Designers where necessary to obtain information required to complete pricing e.g. sketches, basic designs, advice.
· Break down Scope/Employers Requirements into measurable activities for inclusion into Conquest estimating software.
· Carry out quantity take offs from outline or detail drawings and prepare accurate pricing schedules and input into Conquest.
· Determine specific specialist trades requiring quotations and determine supplier list to send out Sub-contract enquiries.
· Liaise with select S/C•s to develop closer relationships to improve reliability of cost certainty from quotation to actual cost.
· Obtain material quotations for significant items.
· Compile a nett cost in Conquest from a combination of the following:
· Prepare S/C comparison & apply rates
· Build up price from first principles of L,P & M•s
· Compile Preliminaries in consultation with Construction Manager and based on a prepared tender programme.
· Analyse Method Related costs in consultation with Construction Manager e.g. scaffolding, temporary works, craneage, attendant labour etc.
· Analyse Possession Management requirements.
· Compile Risk Register for each project
· Attend client mid-tender and post tender meetings, interviews and/or presentations as necessary.
· Write covering letter to accompany Tender Submission to clients highlighting any qualifications and assumptions.
· Discuss and agree tender sum with client•s representative and negotiate modifications where possible or necessary.

JOB CONTEXT (working environment including job challenges & problem solving)The job requires you to have simular experience as an Estimator
Highly computer literate • knowledge of Conquest or similar estimating system
Experienced in ICE, NEC & JCT forms of contract for contracts between £100k & £15m
Experienced in planning as part of the tender process
Understanding & experience of Methods of Measurement
Able to take off quantities accurately
Solid employment history with sound success rate for wining tenders
Ability to work to deadlines must be met.
Work will involve problem solving at all levels
Coordination of all resources to manage the bid and bring together all aspects of a tender
